The Mad Taco anchors new food, office and lodging space in downtown Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY - The Mad Taco restaurant and a whole lot more have moved into a 160-year-old building on Otter Creek in the college town of Middlebury.

What is the place?

The Stone Mill is, as the name suggests, an old stone mill from 1840 that processed grain, cotton and other goods over the years at its location along the perpetually turgid, turbid Otter Creek in downtown Middlebury. Most recently the 9,000-square-foot building at 3 Mill St., which is on the National Register of Historic Places, housed Middlebury College student-innovation programs.

Middlebury developers Stacey Rainey and Mary Cullinane of Community Barn Ventures bought the building from the college in January and have refurbished the location into a multi-use community-gathering space that celebrated its grand opening Nov. 9-10.
